Appearance
Dense inky black, Snake Chaser emerges with a thick khaki head. Lower retention means this foam flees like the snakes on the label art. Some tight-bubbled lace adorns the glass post-evacuation.
Smell
Heavily roasted malts call into mind rich baker’s chocolate and cocoa with a cold coffee aroma. Turning a bit grainy, Snake Chaser mellows to an inviting aroma.
Taste
Chocolate and coffee undertones flow from within this heavily roasted beauty. Dry and drinkable, it finishes pretty cleanly in flavor.
Mouthfeel
I’ve been ruined by the nitro version of this beer but bottled Snake Chaser still rocks. Dry and surprisingly lighter-bodied than anticipated, the smooth carbonation allows for easy drinkability and a pretty clean finish.
Overall
Get Guinness outta the way, Snake Chaser is clearly a better Irish Stout. Locking in superior flavor with smooth drinkability, one better keep track of how many pints of this they put down on St. Patty’s Day! If at all possibly, shoot for a Lakefront tour and try this on the nitro tap!
Score: 81 / 100 - Very Good
