Appearance
Crisp clear, bright golden yellow-colored, Point Three Kings features a well-formed and long-lasting bright white head. Rings of sticky lace are left clinging to the stange.
Smell
An overpowering light-struck skunk aroma upon the crack of the cap subsides once poured into the stange to allow more of the subtle lager-like nuances through. Grainy pale straw and lightly buttered wheat bread fall into place with an almost unnoticeable floral noble hop aroma on the finish. Crisp and clean with minor imperfections here.
Taste
Much more imperfection-less in flavor, the skunkiness doesn’t carry into the mouth. Hard grainy pale malt is softened out by a touch of pilsner malt sweetness and wheat on the finish. Again, hops are near absent, mainly used for balance but give the finish just a pinch of floral character.
Mouthfeel
Light-bodied and crisp, there isn’t much place for flaws to hide here, rather, the beer sticks to basics; good refreshing carbonation, clean body, and light floral, dry bitterness for balance.
Overall
Almost lager-like in quality and cleanliness, this Kölsch is a fantastic lawnmower beer for the warm spring-to-hot summer months. Delicately pairing soft floral hops with pale and pils malt and soft wheat undertones, this clean beer is, as they say, “well made”.
