Appearance
Deep golden yellow in color with great clarity and a billowing white head, Somersault’s carbonation leaps toward the surface feeding the great retention. Sticky lace is left clinging all over the glass!
Smell
The playful aroma springs out with a citrus and earth blend that’s accompanied well by a hint of apricot fruitiness and notes of ginger spice. The hop profile is quite reminiscent of Fat Tire’s earthy, mulch-like aroma and gently overtakes the more subtle nuances of this beer.
Taste
The malt provides a good backbone and biscuit flavors for the lemon citrusy and earth-toned hops to spring-board off of while mild ginger spice and faint apricot fruit notes pull forward towards the end.
Mouthfeel
The crisp entry, abounding with carbonation, leads to a very oat-derived smooth, light body that still finishes clean and refreshing. Citrus, apricot, and ginger-like spiciness add a lively, lingering summer taste on the tongue.
Overall
A great summer beer from New Belgium, the playful fruit and spice complexities of Somersault give it distinctive flavor with a clean, soft finish for an all-around refreshing and enjoyable treat!
