You may desire, at some point, to see the face behind the articles or read about why we do this (for free no less!) All of us at BeerFM are committed to having a good time on here and would love for you to get to know us a little bit more.
Delusions of Grandeur
BeerFM started out as a beer and cigar podcast inspired by one of my friends with no real intention on becoming anything more. Fueled by alcohol and a love for TalkRadar, the first episode was a whopping hour and nine minutes. It didn’t take long for us to realize not only did people not want to listen to us talk that long, but I really didn’t want to edit for that long either (over 3 hours for one episode!).
Sweem and I started this short-lived endeavor in our apartment not too long ago, some time around March of 2008 I want to say. It abruptly turned into something with a much shorter time length with a heavier focus on beer tips. Sweem and I soon parted ways, moving to different states out of financial necessity and I took the helm of BeerFM, slowly turning it into what’s before you now; a full-fledged beer website. I can tell you, it’s great to have Sweem (and the others) back on BeerFM!
People sometimes ask (who am I kidding, they ask all the time) what the FM in BeerFM stands for. Since it began as a podcast, the FM stood to resemble FM radio, like “Beer Radio”. The name was catchy and it stuck.
BeerFM still produces podcasts, but with the time constraints of the site, those podcasts have now been put on the back burner and reserved for times when breweries give us free beer. The podcast promotion is like a thank-you to them.
Riding into the Sunset
Where is BeerFM headed? Well, were growing with contributors as well as constant readership. That’s a good start.
From there we’d love to continue to spread the gospel of good beer to more and more people not only locally but regionally and nationally as well as build a strong community of active beer lovers. We’d also love to see a BeerFM Beerfest in the future but that could be a ways off. Until then, we’re content with our local events and small steps forward and we are always welcome to receiving support (read: free beer) from anyone who would like to give it!
Cheers!
